Tumblr and Automattic join blog forces

Automattic acquired 450 million blogs for a super nice price. Tumblr couldn’t have asked for a better partner that talks and walks the open web.

Yahoo paid $1.1 billion in 2013 as Marissa was eager to spend company money to reach younger users, albeit neither Yahoo nor Verizon figured out a way to monetize the vibrant community.

I’m sure that Matt knows how to merge and mix Tumblr’s staff of 200 with Automattic’s 400 who breathe decentralization without an office or email, akin to the DNA of WordPress that powers 96% of all decentralized blogs.

Harnessing the open source prowess of WordPress with the community and mobile savviness of Tumblr could well be the future of blogs.
